PARENTING FOR MOMS AND DADS

Open to North End moms and dads of children aged 0 to 6 years. The program is beneficial to those who want to learn more about child development, discipline and safety, as well as adult stress reduction and creating healthy relationships.

Location:
Wesley Ontario Early Years Centre (155 Queen St. North, Lower Level of Betty Brooks Building/Victoria Park Community Homes)

Meeting Time:
7 Week Program - Fridays from 1:30 to 3:30pm

Goals of Program:

  • To promote healthy relationships between parents and their children.
  • To enhance the parent's understanding of child development and child behaviour.
  • To teach appropriate methods of discipline.
  • To enhance the parent's understanding of safety and supervision of their child.
  • To provide an opportunity for parents to meet other parents.
  • To enhance the parent's understanding of their children's nutritional needs.
  • To provide opportunities for parents to learn how to cook nutritious, low cost meals and snacks.

Description of Program (activities, participants, etc.):

  • 6 weeks of parenting education classes taught by a child protection worker and an experienced parenting co-facilitator
  • 1 week of community kitchens taught by a registered dietitian
  • The number of participants per program session is 12-15 parents
  • A certificate is issued upon successful completion of this 7 week program
  • Snacks and bus tickets are provided
