HEALTHY KIDS CLUB

Open to North End children interested in exploring aspects of their health. Children will learn to prepare healthy meals and snacks, explore physical activity and creativity, and learn about nutrition and healthy living.

Location:
North Hamilton Community Health Centre (554 John St. North) & Robert Land Health Clinic (Eva Rothwell Resource Centre, 2nd Floor - 460 Wentworth St. North)

Meeting Time(s):
One Thursday a month from 5:00 to 7:00pm

Goals of Program:

  • Children gain an interest in nutrition and exercise and become educated in terms of healthy eating and healthy living.
  • Children develop a sense of self-sufficiency as they learn to cook for themselves.
  • Children develop strong bodies, teamwork skills, and positive self-esteem, as they take part in physical activity and games.
  • Children exercise their minds and express their creativity through art and other creative outlets.
  • A healthy social network is formed.

Description of Program (activities, participants, etc.):

  • There are three to four groups of approximately 5-15 children and each group meets once per month on a Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm either at North Hamilton Community Health Centre or at the Robert Land Health Clinic (Eva Rothwell Resource Centre).
  • Children learn how to prepare nutritious meals and snacks; they explore physical activity and creativity, and develop an understanding of what constitutes a healthy lifestyle.
  • Children are encouraged to share recipes and ideas for activities in the program.
